The Department for Families and Communities has a broad mandate to work with those in need who, through circumstance, may be poor, vulnerable, at risk of harm or isolated and disconnected.

They are committed to helping families, communities and individuals build their resilience and well-being through a range of integrated services. SA Police Crime Prevention Unit

SAPOL applies a problem solving approach to all police services. This rationale is based on accurate and timely intelligence; a policing technique increasingly being used by police jurisdictions around the world.

SAPOL’s approach through problem solving aims to reduce crime by several strategies including:

  • Addressing the social causes and the effects of crime
  • Reducing the desire to commit crime by increasing the likelihood of detection through ‘best practice’ response and investigation

Maximising the potential of strategic alliances involving community, business and other government agencies.

Blue Light Inc. SA

Blue Light is a successful program internationally, with every state and territory in Australia participating, as well as New Zealand, Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Cook Islands.

Blue Light aims to assist the Police to rectify the imbalance of proactive and re-active policing where young people are concerned. It does this by providing young people with positive lifestyle alternatives and strategies to avoid becoming an offender or victim of crime.

Women’s & Children’s Hospital

The Women's and Children's Hospital (WCH) provides state of the art health care for women and children in Adelaide and South Australia. We are a world leader in many areas of endeavour.

The WCH is undertaking groundbreaking research in many fields and the hundreds of research projects under way aim to prevent illness and disease and improve treatment options. the WCH works with all three South Australian universities in the training of hundreds of health professionals each year. The WCH is playing a leading role in improving the health of women and children in South Australia, and throughout the world.

Carers SA

The Carers Association is the peak Carers organisation representing all Carers in South Australia. The Carers Association of South Australia aims to empower Carers to participate in partnership with government and non-government organisations for the provision of better services, to improve the conditions under which Carers work, and to increase recognition of Carers' contribution to the South Australian community and economy.

Multicultural SA

Multicultural SA is the agency responsible for the Government on all matters relating to multicultural and ethnic affairs in South Australia. Their vision is to achieve an open, inclusive, cohesive and equitable society where cultural, linguistic, religious and productive diversity is valued and supported.

Office of Recreation and Sport

The Office for Recreation & Sport is the lead agency for the implementation of the South Australian Government's policy on recreation and sport.

The Office funds sporting and recreation organisations and providers, supports state, regional and local associations, implements policy and programs, leads recreation and sport planning, manages facilities, provides services for elite sport and promotes physical activity in all age groups. Two important initiatives lead by the Office are the Government’s Be Active Program and the Physical Activity Strategy.

Office of the Guardian for Children and Young People

As an independent agency, the South Australian Office of the Guardian for Children and Young People advocates for and promotes the best interests of children and young people who are under the care, custody or guardianship of the Minister for Families and Communities.

The Office advocates for children and young people in out of home care including relative or kinship care, foster care, residential care and secure care.  Priority is given to those children and young people who are the subjects of a guardianship or custody court order.

The Office is a significant source of client referrals for KFK recreation programs.

Office for Volunteers

Situated within the Premier’s portfolio, the SA Office for Volunteers is set up to help South Australian volunteers build stronger communities through supporting, promoting and enhancing volunteering.

They have a significant role in:

  • promoting volunteering, and increasing the recognition of volunteers;
  • making it easier for people to be involved in volunteering, and creating more opportunities for their involvement;
  • building partnerships between the Government, corporate and voluntary sectors;
  • providing effective and balanced policy advice to Government on the issues and concerns of the volunteer community; and
  • implementing a co-ordinated approach across Government in regards to policy and support for volunteering.

Families SA

As a Division of the Department of Family and Community Services, Children, Youth and Family Services has leadership in a number of key areas including child protection, youth justice, and adoptions. Its primary area of concern is the protection of children – keeping them safe.

Within this context Families SA  provide services through a network of three regions and 19 District Centres and associated branch offices, and work in the following areas:

  • Protecting children from abuse and harm;
  • Supporting families to reduce risk to children;
  • Providing alternative care for children and young people when home is not an option;
  • Working with young people who break the law;
  • Managing adoption processes;
  • Caring for refugee children at risk; and
  • Delivering services to address poverty.

Social Inclusion Board

The Government’s Social Inclusion Initiative aims are to:

“ …secure the future we all want: Where our families and young people flourish and succeed, where Government, business, individuals and communities work together positively, creatively and with mutual respect to build a socially inclusive community that supports all South Australians.”

Reporting directly to the Premier, the new Social Inclusion Board aims to achieve better outcomes for the most disadvantaged people in the community and provide more substantial support for young people. The Board is supported by a Social Inclusion Unit, which forms part of the Premier’s Department.
